Reaper

This had to be the worst setup for a 'situation comedy' ...ever.

What could be funny about the story of a guy who's parents sold his soul to the devil and how the devil then asks for payback. I mean really.

How on Earth did Reaper get syndicated?

Well, actually, because it's genius.

The main character, Sam, is tasked with capturing 'souls' that have escaped from Hell, and returning them; bounty-hunter style. To be honest that bit is where the adventure is and lets him get in to all sorts of trouble, however, that is not the genius. The best bit, the really, really clever bit is the dynamic between 'the devil' and Sam. The detail in the way the devil tries to tempt Sam and feed him false ideas. One particularly well written piece was how the devil tried to divide Sam from his friends.

A shockingly evangelistic piece of TV; Beautifully subversive!
