A Lesson in Complacency

By Helen

As I mentioned in my previous post, we we're running a Cafe as a part of Reality.

The first night was good. Everything worked, and we we're able to talk to a few people.
Tuesday I had a night off for Family time.
Wednesday we had a fantastic singer called Marie Wilson who just played and played. Again, we we're able to talk to people, and it was good.
Then there was Thursday; our last night. We'd planned a 'Grease' sing-a-long for some fun. Becca F had put loads of work in to the planning; preparing prop bags, etc. Here starts the lesson.

All is going OK, we've got a few people in, and the team in the street are flyering people without being annoying. I'm inside keeping an eye on techie things and watching the movie. We'd decided to show the whole film, and try to get a few people up to sing the songs as they came up.

After an hour, I'm aware that it's dragging a bit, and that people can't talk too well. There's a few conversations going on outside, but they're mainly people who've moved from inside.
It's at this point that Helen comes up to me and says "I can't just sit there anymore!" "I need to talk to someone" or words to that effect.

That was my lesson, in case you missed it.

You see, I had seen God bring people to the cafe night on night and share their lives with us and yet I had settled for a lot less on the last night. Why? I think because I had already seen God move, and was feeling complacent. We'd achieved what we set put to do, but I'd taken my eyes off what GOD was up to. He had not finished!!

So, Helen, thank you for pulling me up and reminding me of how my attitude should be. No matter what God does, I need to keep looking for what else He's up to!
